Breguet Marine Big Date / 18k Rose Gold / Ref.5817BR
Breguet Marine is one of the most looked over Sport luxury watch of all, begin in the 1990s, but the history of High seas and Marine Chronometer history can be date back to the early 1800s.
Oceanic exploration has been an important part of Breguet's history; Abraham-Louis Breguet established his brand in 1775 at 28. Within the first two decades, he was focusing on its chronometers. Since the invention of the marine chronometer by John Harrison in 1761, the timepiece became an indispensable tool on ships, particularly in marine fleets.
Fast forward to 1815; King Louis XVIII granted A.L. Breguet the prestigious title of the official watchmaker to the French Royal Navy. Compared to other timekeeping devices at the time, marine chronometers are very advanced. First, they had to be incredibly accurate. An error of just one second could mean fifteen minutes of longitudinal error of approximately 400 meters. They also had to endure the constant movement on a ship., so Breguet designs their chronometers in a wooden box with a suspension system to keep the chronometers level to the movement on the ship.
Back to the Morden Breguet Marine, it was made to compete with the high sections of the market; yes, I mean the Patek Philippe aquanaut ref.5067, it can be compared directly to the Aquanaut because it's target the same audience of high-end luxury sports watch. Both are amazing with the level of hand-finished involvement, but for some reason, the Breguet didn't go through the mass and stayed behind, waiting to be discovered by someone who loves the history and whos looking for something that not very common.
