The world time watch original concept was in 1885 by Emmanuel Cottier; he was approached by the chief engineer of the Canadian railway, who fed up with the confusion having to change the time on his pocket watch when traveling between towns and city; unfortunately, Cottier’s mechanism for reading multiple time zone was not successfully, but it inspired his son, Louis Cottier to finish what he started. In 1931 Louis create the first world time pocket watch, and later on, in 1937, the world time came to a wristwatch and has been used in many prestige brands, including Patek Philippe. Cottier’s mechanism is still used today as the base for most world time watches.
