Smooth bezel with the Gay Frères Oyster BRACELET

feature Rolex Day-Date ref.1802

One of the most uncommonly Day-Date is the one with the smooth bezel and Oyster bracelet. It's very uncommon people couldn't recognize it as a Rolex, that's why it is one of the rarest combinations of vintage Rolex Day-Date. Popup in books or private collections from time to time but remain the status as the hidden gem.

One character that makes it very charming is the rivet bracelet. It used the same bracelet as the sport model like Submariner and GMT, so it gives a sporty look to the watch, the rivet-style bracelet made by one of most renowned metalworkers of the 20th century Gay Frères, who supply many bracelets to watch industry top name, like a loved by many collector bracelets called "BOR" or beads-of-rice in 40-50s' to Vacheron Constantin and Patek, ladder bracelet found on vintage Zenith chronographs, and you guessed it...the Legendary bracelet from the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.

This example is the Ref.1802 code for the smooth bezel, pairing with a very rare "white minute track red quarter dial" the dial feature a minute mark with red color on 60 15 30 and 45, this white dial is very easily damaged if doesn't take extra attention care on service.

I always think why this combination of the smooth bezel, white dial, and the oyster bracelet looks so good. Maybe it looks like today's modern Rolex even though it is a 50 years old watch, as John Edelman said in the Hodinkee talking watch series, " Modern can be sold a 100 years ago or in another 100 years."
