In the late 60s' and 70s', everything was moving out of the traditional style, cars, home decor, people, and watches. In my opinion 70s' are probably the era of great design and innovation. And when it comes to watches, one of the legendary designers is Gérald Genta, he's known for the man behind all the great design in the watches industry.

One of the models Gérald Genta design for Rolex is the "King Midas" named after Greek mythology's King Midas, famous for his ability to turn everything he touched into gold. Back in 1964, this model is one of Rolex's most expensive pieces, and the heaviest gold watch of its day weighed between 150 and 200 grams.

The design of the Rolex king midas draws it;s inspiration from the parthenon temple of athena in greece, placing the winding crown facing up, you will see the triangular tip resembles the temple roof , while the thick bracelet grooves represent the columns . the CROWN in the shape of sun represent a bright day over the temple.

If you're reading on until this and it doesn't impress you yet, this might… the King Midas also wore by the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley, appeared in a James Bond movie during the 1974 film, "The Man with the Golden Gun" and Francisco Scaramanga – a villain played by Christopher Lee.

All of this, and still one of the most underrated watches Rolex has to offer, is unique and got a great story behind.
